Ultima IV

2002-05-04

Comments: If there was ever a game that would stick in my mind as being a challenge, this would be it. Ultima IV does not have the flashy graphics and animation that Phantasy Star has. Instead it is a very hardcore game that will certainly loose your interest if you don\'t write everything down the people tell you. You will also have to create a matrix with all the virtues so you don\'t get confused. This game is not for the average Final Fantasy gamer. Be prepared for many frustrating hours! After reading all the other reviews, I can say that I am the only one here to actually have finished this game!! It took my two years to do it. The final labryinth separates the men from the boys. You have find hidden passageways to make it to the final room, and then you must pass a test. You have 3 chances to answer the questions correctly or else you will be sent to the very start! So many times that happened to me. And then the final question asks you what one word encompasses everything. I still remember what the answer is but I\'m not going to post it here. You basically have to think about it very hard because nothing in the game will give you the direct answer, you just have to put together everything you\'ve learned from the game. Anyway, if you do make past the final test, the ending isn\'t anything to hold your breath over. Quite a disapointment after such a long, hard journey. It gets an 8.

Comments: A sleeper hit of the SMS. This game was great. It took combined many genres into one to create a unique gameplay experience. One of my all time favorites. I still remember trying to get through those caves that were pitch black except for a few feet around you.

Comments: Now this game brings back memories of my youth... It seems so simple now, but back in the day this game ruled the boxing game world. Never beat Drago until just recently on an emulator! The secret is to power up during the training levels way over the minimum required so you can punch drago out without having to jab him first. After you beat Drago, the game shows a cinema of Rocky and his wife I believe. This game gets an 8 because of the difficulty.

Comments: This game kicked ass up down left and right. I mean no other game like at the time could touch its graphics, gameplay, and challenge. Sweet Lord, please calm my soul!!!! The worst thing about this game was the ending. All it said was \"GAME OVER\". What kind of jacked up piece of crap ending is that? You basically had to play your ass off until the end. And the last boss was a nightmare. He was a ninja that would disapear and then materialize somewhere and blow this whirlwind thing at you. If you were lucky to kill him, then you can see the terrible ending. I would of gave it a 10 if not for the sucky end.

Comments: My very first Master System Game for my 12th Birthday back in 88!! I will always hold a soft spot for this game because of the many hours spent playing. I gotta admit, this game was a good translation from the arcade. Everything was intact. Even the endings. I can still hum the music \"Musical Sound Shower\" and \"Splash Wave\". Greatness at its best. A perfect 10!

Comments: You have to give this game a change. It really is terrific and I\'ve never seen another like it. The name sounds very bad, so just bare with it. The trick is to get your egg down to the bottom without letting it get smashed. A puzzle game like no other. I really with I would of held on to this one, it was great. Anybody wanna sell?? It gets an 8.

Phantasy Star

Comments: Simply put: Absolutely brilliant. The best RPG ever. I was in 7th grade at the time, never played a RPG before, and didn\'t even know what one is. Then an older friend gets this new game called Phantasy Star for in insane $69.99! He let me borrow it just so I could try it out and sweet Lord!! I was just breath taken at the graphics, battles, story, and dungeons. I had to give the game back to him because I was just borrowing it. I didn\'t have enough money at the time to buy it, but I did find a used copy which I still have years later. In my opinion, Sega has outdone themselves and everyone else with Phantasy Star and no other game has given me the level of excitement as Phantasy Star did. Not even the later sequels. I really need a true sequel to the Phantasy Star franchise that will at least match Phantasy Star 1. Until that day, well I\'ll playing the first in the series.

Comments: I loved this game. It was my second ever game and I played it for years afterwards. Very challenging and I\'ll never forget the first time I beat it. It was hard as hell but you had to destroy this iron base with guns blasting all around you. The only way to defeat it was to blast each side with 5 arrow bombs and then the center. And that ending cinema was freaking awesome. Way ahead of it\'s time for an 8-bit game.

I remember getting pretty far but gave up because of the difficulty. There was a cheat were you were invincible and I finally finished the game from that! Sheesh...

Comments: This game was just pure entertainment. The BMX biking was my favorite game, doing those 360 flips was awesome. I\'ll never forget one time when I was on the half pipe the screen started shaking as if an earthquake was going on, and when it was over one of the letters from the \"HOLLYWOOD\" sign had tipped over!!! I swear it happened and I never could get it to happen again!

Comments: After playing this game on an Apple at school back in 1987 - 1989 with one of those green monochrome monitors, this was a nice surprise. You do have to be a complete dork to read the manuals and get the answers to the clues the game gives you. Lots of fun though if it was your kind of game.

Comments: A true classic. I wish I owned this one. At least I can be greatful I had the chance to play (and beat) this game. That last level in the cave was insanely hard. Does anyone remember a superman figure flying out of one of something in the ground if you did something special?? Thinking back 15 years makes my head hurt but I remember that happening. Never did finish it, someday perhaps.

Comments: Oh yeah baby!! This game was the bomb back in \'88 - \'89. A faithful translation from the arcade. I would dump my allowance into the arcade version when I was in sixth grade with a buddy of mine at the 7-11 store. Afer playing the NES version, which didn\'t allow 2 players and was a complete embarrasment to the arcade version, all my friends soon grew to respect my little SMS after those late night sleep overs playing Double Dragon and Altered Beast. Long live the SMS!

Comments: Why is the game getting bashed so bad? It is a flight sim and not for everyone. The graphics are almost non-existent, but it is a hell of a lot of fun. You had to play this game in 1986 when the SMS was in all it\'s glory to reap the fun out of it. I give it a 8 cause at the time there was none like it.

Overall a fun shooter. If you could do the 2 player mode where one moves the satellite, and the other person does the shooting, it would make your experience much funner.

Comments: This game blew me away! I\'m so pissed that I traded this for something I can\'t even remember! I want it back! Anyway, this was Sega\'s answer to the Legend of Zelda for the NES. An awesome action-adventure game that will completely engross you until the end. This was much better than Zelda and should of had a sequel on the Genesis. Why it didn\'t I\'ll never know. If someone has this AND it has the complete box and instructions, email me and we can work something out. It gets a perfect 10!

Found this game at a flea market and played the hell out of it. Real cheesy but fun. The made up teams sucked also. I\'ll give it a 6 just cause I played it so much.

Comments: These were the pack in games back in the day when all consoles came bundled with a free game (or two). Those were the days... Now all you get is the console unit and one controller. Cheapskates! Anyway, Safari Hunt was Sega\'s answer to the NES\' Duck Hunt. A quite fun game, I still remember that famous music between rounds. I actually managed to play to some insane high round like 70 something and it told me that the hunt was over! Hang On was another fun racing game. Those 80\'s sure were the funnest years of my life with my good \'ol SMS... This combo cart gets a 9 because now days it\'s unheard of to pack agame with a console, let alone 2.

Comments: The only reason I bought this game because it was on the card format. Like a credit card, and that was a really cool selling point. The game on the other hand, you either love it or hate it, and I hated it. I shouldn\'t be that hard on it though, I had a fun time laughing so hard that it was worth the money.
